Taleigao Brinjal or eggplant (Solanum melongena) is a culturally and economically significant agricultural crop belonging to the Solanaceae family, indigenously cultivated in the state of Goa. The variety derives its distinctive name and reputation from its primary geographical area of cultivation, Taleigao Village. Characterized by its exceptionally large, round structure, light purple skin, and dense, low-seeded flesh, this crop plays an integral role in traditional Goan cuisine including Bharit (a roasted, mashed gravy dish), Rava Fry (semolina-coated pan-fried slices), roasted preparations, and as a vital vegetable ingredient in the classic Goan festive stew, Khatkhate.
RIPA is a Not for profit organization with an aim to promote and facilitate indigenous Intellectual Property [IP] at National and International level.
